Coastal Creation
The Brief
The garden came with a new build property: bland, poor quality grass and soil, and a coastal position that brought heavy winds and salt spray with it, both a real threat to young planting. The clients wanted something low maintenance with plenty of colour and flowers, along with a subtle nod to the garden they'd left behind. They gave us full creative freedom to deliver it.
The Approach
Rusted corten steel edging defines clean, low maintenance borders throughout. Structural screening protects new planting from the wind and stops the soil drying out, backed up by hedge planting that forms a further windbreak. Every plant chosen had to tolerate salt spray and coastal conditions, and a small path was added for easy access from the gate.

The Result
The garden is still establishing, but the shelter from the screening and hedging is already doing its job, giving the coastal tolerant planting the protection it needs to settle in. The clients liked the result enough that when they later moved house, they asked us to bring Blooming Scotland with them to their new garden too, which says more about how the project landed than anything else could.
